Listen & Study Services' Commentary:
I don't know what I just watched; however, I noticed that the father said the young man is frequently disrespectful to his mother, his grandmother, and his sister! So, he (his father) decided that his son's bad attitude needed to be addressed (nipped in the bud).
You and I both know if the father didn't do something immediately about his son's bad behavior, people would call him a 'dead-beat dad'!
Of course, he could have sent him for counseling through a program of some sort too! But, he did what he considered best to halt the disrespect before it took a turn for the worse - like the son hurting one of those family members. Although, I wish he did not repeatedly call him the "N" word - too many people were/are confused, divided, and insulted by this word. Others may see his use of this word on his child -child abuse! As an American of African descent, I concur.
But don't get me wrong, I in no way advocate beating up children. Can you take a good look at why the father chose to deal with his son in this manner though? To me, it looked like he reached his wit's end when he ran out of ways to curtail the dangerous direction his son was headed in. The father (over the years) told the boy to stop being arduous to adults but he refused.
Some reading this commentary thought back on when they'd succumb to anger and struck or slapped their child - They remembered this about what they did, "I've gotten angry with my child for sassing me (calling me out of my name -example, "B! tch" -etc.) but I never beat them up as this man did!" The thing is, you've put your hands on your child. Once again, I'm not okay with child abuse of any kind! So please find a better way to deal with strong-willed children.
Maybe the whole family needs counseling because sadly, I've seen this man's approach go far south and become deadly... Take a look at the story in the 'Similar Story' section below:
Needless to say, after getting a large dose of his own medicine (he bullied those around him), I bet he won't do it again!!
