Listen & Study Services' Commentary:
Many people are asking why Brittany Spears still needs a conservator after all these years. Most know about her very public mental breakdown when she shaved her head and exhibited truly odd behavior. The general public speculated. A lot of them thought maybe she was going through ‘Post Partum Depression’ after she gave birth not too long before the mental collapse. Others thought she was on drugs. Then some think she is Bipolar and has had manic episodes in public leading to these assumptions.
As it turns out, we may never know what happened in Spears’ life to bring on the woes that have kept her from controlling her own money and apparently, even many of her personal decisions such as to whether she could get married and have another child.
I usually do not write commentaries on celebrities since that area of the market, for writers is saturated. When publicity writers such as TMZ have some of the highest readerships of celebrities, who needs one more writer to write about what stars are doing?
Now back to Brittany:
Brittany still sings on tour, but she has been deemed irresponsible indefinitely; at least it seems that way to us (the public). That is, according to this Fox News article she isn’t allowed to have her birth control removed so she would be able to conceive a child. This decision came with the recent judges' denying Spears's release from a conservatorship. What the heck!
I’ve heard of conservators being able to tell you what you could spend your money on but controlling ones innate right to try and conceive an offspring! Not at all! My guess is that her father, et al watch her every move – even when she finishes singing on tour. They probably do this to make sure she doesn’t sneak away to see her Gynecologist and have the contraceptive removed.
I have an adult close relative who is a ward of the courts because she is mentally challenged. She was put on birth control without her consent! To most adults, my relative’s case is understandable. But Spears, even if she is still mentally ill, there isn’t a law (here in the US) that could tell her she cannot have a baby. On the other hand, after she gives birth and is found to be unstable, the child could be taken away for his or her safety.
Lastly, maybe her father, who’s one of her conservators, is preventing Brittany from getting married and having another child because she is under psych meds that are harmful to unborn children. In that case, it would be a father’s duty to make sure his daughter and potential grandchildren are safe from harm – by any means possible.
Even with the latter in the previous sentence, it seems that Spears could hire her own lawyer(s) and get them to stop the conservatorship and release Brittany from being a prisoner.
I have a feeling that as time goes on, there will be a great rift between her and her father which won’t be reconciled.
