The first thing or question that comes to mind is, "What parent would allow their child to undergo an irreversible, life-altering, as well as a trauma-inducing surgery which 'Gender Confirmation' is all of these things?"
Well, considering Jennings was underage at the time of her surgery, she wasn't a young child as so many of us mistakenly assumed. She was a few months (June 28, 2018 - she was 17 years old) shy of turning 19 on October 6, 2018. Upon learning this information about Jennings, this information changed everything for me - Somewhat!
Should I be graphic in explaining what I deem mutilation on a child? I think I will be explicit in sharing my humble opinion; which is not to belittle this child whatsoever:
Scientists agree that a child's brain isn't fully developed until they reach age 25 (some say age 27); thus, how did Jennings's parents and doctor(s) figure a teen would be able to handle all the mental struggles that are sure to follow Jazz? You are about to tell me, 'Only time will tell us what the outcome will be for this teen!' And, I agree with your mental comment to me. Still, I just can't shake the uneasy feeling that this surgery was an injustice performed on a person who was too young to give consent for it to be done.
I believe 19-year-old Jennings, in less than ten years, will regret this decision.

Here's the thing, in my research on the topic 'Gender Confirmation', I read how researchers' findings suggest that suicide rates among this group are exceptionally high compared to other similar groups such as same-sex-oriented groups.

Here's the thing, in my research on the topic 'Gender Confirmation', I read how researchers' findings suggest that suicide rates among this group are exceptionally high compared to other similar groups such as same-sex-oriented groups.
The prevalence of suicide attempts among respondents to the National Transgender Discrimination Survey (NTDS), conducted by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and National Center for Transgender Equality, is 41 percent, which vastly exceeds the 4.6 percent of the overall U.S. population who report a lifetime suicide attempt, and is also higher than the 10-20 percent of lesbian, gay and bisexual adults who report ever attempting suicide. Much remains to be learned about underlying factors and which groups within the diverse population of transgender and gender non-conforming people are most at risk.
