Why do I get the feeling we've (US citizens) been thrown under the bus with the Warrantless Surveillance Bill?
Sixty-five Senators (across party lines) voted to not only keep this law that former president Bush put into effect, this bill has expanded to allow the Feds to spy on Americans ~ so-called when we (Americans) are engaged in communications with a foreign entity on their target list. That list is of known terrorists or other foreign enemies of the state.
You see, here's the thing, the 34 Senators (across party lines) who voted against this bill did so to protect US citizens' Fourth Amendment Rights; which states that we have a right against unlawful searches and seizures. So spying on us via wiretap, emails, and phone violates these rights.
Some of you would probably argue that if you do not have communications with foreign parties, you won't have anything to fear. My response to that is, "How would I know that my regular conversations are not being monitored and misconstrued for conspiracy?" It's not like our government hasn't targeted innocent Americans in the past.
Where do we go from here since the Feds have six more years to do whatever they want with our privacy?
