Listen & Study Services' Commentary:
Two former police officers are fired from the police department they worked for and are now being charged with several criminal offenses.
Mall authorities, according to this news article - see link below- called 911 to report a homeless man ( Jose Ortega Gutierrez) on its premises for hours at a time, but they didn't stat whether he was being a nuisance or not. Yet, the two officers came and took the man away in handcuffs without telling dispatch. They didn't even have their body cameras turned on during the drive to where they were taking their rider.
From what I read in this WP news article, the homeless man was intoxicated and smelt of alcohol. The off-duty officer who helped him said.
Upon arrival at a remote location, they beat him up and left him in a bloody mess. He woke up and didn't know where he was but was able to make his way back to the mall where he heralded down an off-duty police officer who called for help for the injured man.
I wonder how many times this type of criminal scenario will play out in the future in this (U.S.) 1st-World country? It seems it's never going to stop!!!
In the comment section of this article, people are outraged and vocalized their anger that police are still breaking laws against police brutality! Many referenced the latest case of Tyre Nichols,a young man whom a group of former police officers are being investigated and charged with the 2nd degree murder of Nichols. Like Nichols, Guitierrez was beat up but Nichols didn't survive the attack. And, rogue police are still doing roughing people up and even murdering them with impunity (So they think! Well, many are immune from prosecution or punishment! But, they didn't get away with it this time!)!
As I've mentioned, these two former Hialeah Police Department officers, 27-year-old Rafael Otano and Lorenzo Orfila, 22, had been charged with armed kidnapping and battery. Orfila, who was also charged with official misconduct, and Otano were relieved of duty on Thursday and booked into a Miami-Dade County jail, this article reads.
