Listen & Study Services' Commentary:

I understand that both sides (Republicans and Democrats) have to go that extra mile and bring up bad news on their opponents to help them look better in their constituents eyes, but I feel bringing up a person's distant pass is not a wise move and could do more harm than good since people grow and learn from their mistakes.

Republican Representative Lauren Boebert's decision to Tweet about a video of President Joe Biden (when he was a Senator 28 years ago) giving a speech, she did just that; it caught negative feedback from people commenting on her tweet. Several of them wondered, just like I did after I watched that video why did she bring up old news about Biden? Others pointed out the differences between the two speeches: Biden wanted a temporary suspension of Federal Programs (Republicans were and are angry that he included Social Security and Medicare programs as well). But, that is, according to the linked Newsweek article,  "Republican Senator Rick Scott, [...] suggested a five-year sunset clause for federal legislation last year... federal programs like Medicare and Social Security would require regular renewal to remain law."

I visualized all those poor senior citizens become in dire-straights and resented that man for suggesting such a heartless bill. There really isn't a need to stop the only income that 46.7 million American retirees who receive Social Security would suddenly overnight, if you will, be left incomeless. That would be a nightmare for them, I'm 100 percent sure of this judging by how long Washington has taken to reach a budget and has many times come close to putting millions of Americans in peril! Even if it takes 1 or two days, how could Scott condone such a move??? 

What Biden said all those years ago was wrong, but I am sure glad that he didn't accomplish his mission! Goodness!!! That would have hurt our seniors but for a day or two, or longer! No thanks Biden!!!! And, while I certainly hope that Scott's proposal to require renewal of Federal programs after 5 years, I am not angry either way because those programs would be renewed no matter what or when! Goodness!!!!
