"Ophthalmologist David Ming Pon, MD, MPH, was sentenced last week in a federal district court in Jacksonville, Florida, to 10 years in prison for bilking Medicare out of nearly $10 million."
If you can't trust your doctor, 'Who can you trust?' This saying will never be a cliché because as long as there are doctors and patients, you'll always have opportunists who are only after the patients' money, and more of a patient's money; the better it is for doctors.
Throughout the years though, only one type of those lies stood out in my memory, it is, "You have breast cancer!" Women's magazines told stories of many patients who were told this lie after they took a mammogram that found a knot that was diagnosed to be cancer. However, once those patients had surgery, a full mastectomy, then they found out that they never had cancer.
There is no doubt in my mind that many of those doctors were sued, but they didn't care about being sued, they would simply settle out of court and continue working and scamming other patients into thinking they had cancer. They'd make millions of dollars from false-positive mammograms that led to women having needless expensive surgeries, chemotherapy, and/or other cancer treatments.
There are plenty of other false diagnoses that patients received the following test: Some of those are false positive AIDS/HIV tests, diabetes, and more. (See 'Related Pin' below):
This former doctor was most unfortunate; however, his colleagues turned him in after finally becoming tired of his dirty deeds. They even testified in court and asked the judge to go hard on him. Other doctors such as a clinician bragged about what a kind of doctor Dr. P(C) is.

Physician Who Tricked Patients Into Surgery Gets 10 Years
Robert Lowes March 21, 2017 16Ophthalmologist David Ming Pon, MD, MPH, was sentenced last week in a federal district court in Jacksonville, Florida, to 10 years in prison for bilking Medicare out of nearly $10 million. One could call it a light sentence. Federal prosecutors had sought at least 40 years in prison for the 59-year-old Dr Pon, not just on account of the dollars at stake, but also on account of what they described as "evil" treatment of his elderly patients. |
