Farming returns to a Fukushima village
​ for the first time since the nuclear disaster

JAPAN: Six years after the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant meltdown in 2011 (a result of the tsunami off the Pacific Coastline; which was triggered by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake), farmers are going to plant rice in a village near Fukushima. This was the second largest nuclear disaster ever.

My initial thoughts on this newsweek article, via Yahoo news, was that I am not too concerned about farmers returning to farmland near Fukushima because experts have been testing radiation levels at the plant and far away from it where any concern for radiation levels has been detected in the past.

Why would they, experts that is, allow people to not only plant crops near the plant but be in close proximity to it if it's unsafe for them to do so? My rationale is that they wouldn't allow such a hazardous situation!

Rice planting resumes on eight farms near the plant:

​Rice planting has resumed in a village near Fukushima, Japan, six years after the disaster at Fukushima I nuclear power plant. Eight farms in the region plan to restart commercial rice growing, in a combined region of around seven hectares, according to the Japan Times.

However, I do try to keep an open mind about new or previously held back information surrounding this nuclear disaster. In other wards, I have heard related reports of contamination from the plant reaching parts of the U.S. -

​There were images of diagrams showing radiation levels in the Pacific Ocean and even flowing, via air currents, far out across to some west coast states. I hadn't read about this topic in a few years, so I searched today for an article that would suffice our worries enough to help all of us relax and just 'CALM DOWN' about Fukushima! This article is thorough and, I must say, entertaining, but more importantly, it is educational.
