MIAMI, Florida: Marla Dixon was waiting in the delivery room to have her baby boy. The Obstetrician arrived at her bedside at North Shore Medical Center in Miami. Although her pregnancy wasn't an high-risk one, her doctor took this for granted and kept making mistakes throughout an hour and a half, as a result, Marla's baby became the victim of his doctor's failure to use his expertise at the most urgently needed moment.

This doctor, Ata Atogho kept leaving to make phone calls, according to news sources. The Dixon's baby should have been delivered via C-Section in a timely manner but because he wasn't, the baby lacked oxygen for too long and is now brain damaged.

The courts awarded this family $33.8 million malpractice judgment, according to a federal lawsuit. The lawsuit mentioned how this doctor blamed the mother for not pushing hard enough during delivery amongst other things. 

Since money can't restore this baby's mental capacity, the malpractice judgment does little to comfort this mother and father; I'm sure. 

I doubt that because this mother was a teen, just like the other three teen mothers who sued, a few years, for strikingly similar situations, could have increased her chances of having difficulty during delivery. I feel this way because that idea wasn't brought up in the trial. Oddly, I read that (teen pregnancy delivery difficulty) somewhere though. What I read or heard about this is that teen girls are still growing and their pelvic areas being too small to have natural birth - they'd have to have a C-section. This sure sounds like 'High-risk Pregnancy' to me!

Even so, this doctor simply gets the Federal government to pay for his malpractice lawsuits and is able to keep his medical license afterwards.
