Just when I thought I've heard it all, a disturbing story like this one comes out. This man (?) molested kids over decades. In some of those cases, a parent was not in the exam room. In many of the cases, the mother and a nurse were right there with the child and doctor as he examined him/her.
In the Yahoo comment section there are comments stating how they never leave the exam room without their child.
I know you're thinking how could he molest a child with others present. Right? Well, what this slick (And, I do mean slick because he was so cunning, he got away with his crimes for so long) doctor did was use his body to shield the child's few from his/her parent according to this Detroit Free Press news article.
I was horrified to read a terribly troubling comment that brought tears to my eyes (I'll post a copy/paste of it below). Of course what happened to this person happened in the 60's at a time were most Americans were not educated and therefore, they lacked the knowledge associated with how a doctor's examination on a child should have gone. The comment mentioned that she was around 7-years-old when her doctor started putting his fingers into her private part during a couple of visits. The sad thing about it is her mother was present at each time it occurred :'( tears...
I imagine he told her something like he was giving her child a pelvic exam (BTW, young girls don't need this exam). She even said that when she was older in high school, she met a girl who had the same doctor and the same thing happened to her as a young child. "That so darn devious of him!"
I am so concerned about this situation even though they took place many years ago, because, Just like the Olympic team doctor named Nassar who was found guilty of sexually abusing young girls throughout the years, I highly believe there are hundreds, if not thousands, more victims waiting to be heard. Hopefully, you'll heed this warning and watch your children like a hawk where'r they go. Don't be afraid of looking paranoid either. Our children are our precious loved ones.

I'm 60 years old, and I remember a couple of times when I went to the pediatrician when I was around 4-6 years old, I felt really funny and bad when he examined me-- he put his fingers in my vagina a felt around a little. I was not there because of any problem in that area. My mother was sitting right there in the room. He may have asked for permission first, or while he was doing it, saying that this was routine or something... but she didn't object then, so I didn't, either. I don't remember if I told her later I didn't like it, or if she asked me, and I sure don't know if she called the doctor and told him not to do it anymore, but it didn't happen more than once or twice that I can recall. And she kept bringing me to him for several years after that. In high school, I met a girl who went to the same doctor as a kid, and she told me the same story! I couldn't believe it. Made me wonder how many other kids he did this to.

Omgosh!!!! That's horrific... I feel like crying... That so-called doctor was/is pure evil.

I don't think my mother failed me. She was ignorant to what some people might be depraved enough to do, and probably couldn't believe it wasn't ok, even if she may have felt shocked by it. This was in the early 1960s-- things like this weren't spoken about-- at all, by anyone. And yes, she was a person who got intimidated easily, who didn't have a lot of confidence in herself, so maybe the doc picked up on that-- predators are very smart that way, it's how they get to be successful at it. I really don't have any "healing" that needs to be done over this; things were handled differently back then, for better or for worse. It really didn't take any 'courage' for me to tell about this, it was a long time ago, I was not at fault (and neither was my mom), it's the truth, and I just want people to understand how these things can happen. I am certainly not carrying long-buried trauma over this incident, it's just made me more aware, as I grew up, that there are all kinds of people out there, and you need to trust your gut about things. I'm not afraid to ask questions and if someone tries to intimidate me by making me feel stupid, that's on them-- and I'll tell them so. And as far as seeking justice goes, I'm pretty sure the guy died a long time ago. If he was 40 when I was 5, he'd be 95 now, which is unlikely. But I'm just hoping this serves as a cautionary tale-- my doctor was not a "weird-looking" man like some people have commented here that the parents should have known by looking at him that he was a perv-- AND to explain to people who want to blame parents that those parents are not the perpetrators, just because they were too innocent to realize what was going on. But thank you for the well-wishes anyway.

I'm sorry for you. I don't quite agree your mother failed you. Doctors can be intimidating, and most of us do not question them. After all, young boys have their testicles examined. Just the same, your story is sad and sickening. HE failed you, not your mother.
