Escaped Fugitive Stumps Police For Decades: 
​But 50 Years Later, The Truth Emerges  ​

AKRON, Ohio: Young factory worker, 21-year-old Frank Freshwaters was just starting a life and a family. Since he had a good job (he worked at a rubber factory that supplied rubber for automobiles which - this period was the height of the automobile industry) with great pay, he was able to purchase a brand new car.

Yet, Frank wasn't satisfied with his rather lucky lot in life. One night, July 3, 1957, he drove his new car, in a drunken stoop, recklessly down residential streets. According to police reports, what happened next, ruined all lives involved. 

"Eugene Flynt was an Army veteran and fellow rubber worker at the Goodyear plant. He had just parked his truck after a long shift and was walking across the street to his home when Frank came racing around the bend at 50 mph…"

I don't know who called Frank Freshwaters a mastermind for evading the police and recapture for 50 years, but I must say, I have to agree with them. The United States has some of the best security (people finders) in the world. Let's see, then we had the CIA and the FBI to name a few. And now, we also have Homeland Security. This man managed to throw all of these agencies off his trail. Then again, since he didn't commit a federal crime, that must be why neither of these agencies actively searched for him!

I imagine there were detectives across the nation keeping an eye out for Freshwaters for a few years until his trail got cold and subsequently picked up decades later to Frank's detriment; at this time, his false sense of freedom was over. Frank had been recaptured 50-years-later. 

Despite what some criminal minds think and tell family members, friends, and others, it is a rare thing for them to escape prison forever or for decades like Frank Freshwaters did. That's why we're able to read about his capture, it's because it is a highly unusual case. Murderers on the other hand, who've never been caught because no one; in particularly, the police, knows who they are. They are different types of criminals. They're not escaped prisoners; many do not have a known prison record. Frank's escape inspired the movie 'ShawShank Redemption' -1994.

Sometimes family members and close friends hide escaped prisoners for a few years, normally, that is about as long as they get away.
