Wait a few seconds, I am letting you know ahead of time that the likely chances of your gaming chair or office chair exploding would be extremely rare! However, this commentary is not click-bait or fear mongering because under certain circumstances, it could most definitely happen to you or a loved one... Read on...
That said, let's learn what happened to the people harmed by their chairs: I'll start with the teen who died after sitting in his 'gaming chair'! 2009, a teen named 'Xiao Gang' came home from school and simply sat in his desk chair, as usual, when it exploded and damaged his insides but mostly, he bled to death from bleeding that doctors could not stop! In 2008, the first person to be injured was a 65 year old man. He received injuries to his arm and back but lived.
In 2013, the third and final person who was severely injured by her chair was a young woman in her twenties. She was so injured from the explosion, she underwent extensive surgeries to repair the damage to her posterior! So sad indeed, but she survived!
All three victims lived in China at the time of their accidents. I, just like many people who were in this video comment section, was taken aback at all that I saw in the video! I wondered if it could happen to me and felt tension in my neck creep up. That was before I heard the part about how certain manufacturers used poor quality materials and pressurized air (instead of nitrogen gas -a more costly but safer product) in its assembling of pressurized chairs. Doing so increased the likelihood that those chairs would explode and harm or even kill people. Wait! I thought! The shady manufactures didn't do anything wrong by using air (IT'S AIR!)! You see, it's been a long time since I was in school, so the knowledge of the fact that air is made up of chemicals briefly escaped my memory until the video host reminded me of air facts. He said, "air is made up of oxygen" - I was like, "Oh yeah!" I started to recall other air molecules such as carbon dioxide and nitrogen but that was as far as I could remember. The wheels in my brain wouldn't except that answer to why the chairs exploded though. I visited bing.com and keyed in the words ' air molecules' and it showed me the following: Molecules in the air include primarily nitrogen and oxygen as well as water, carbon dioxide, ozone, and many other compounds in trace amounts, some created naturally, others the result of human activity. In addition to gases, the atmosphere contains extras such as smoke, dust, acid droplets, and pollen.
So, the molecules in the cheaper chair cylinder spring can't withstand significant heat that the molecules generate after too much pressure or a heat source. I was still unsatisfied with the YouTube host's explanation of office chair explosions and still wondered if it could happen here in the United States.
What information did I find online? It could most definitely happen here in the States, it just hasn't! Yet! While scanning through the information on this one and only website I came across, I stumbled upon rather surprising facts. There is stuff that we here in North America never, ever think about! But we should not only contemplate this information, we should share it with others to warn them of possible dangers associated with office/gaming chairs. Office chairs are safe here (US), but I kept thinking about YouTube videos that showed ways unthinking (they are titled something like, "Ways Stupid People Lost Their Lives") people have died from what appeared to be a fluke or freak accident! What am I talking about? Well, the author of this webpage article said that misuse of pressurized chairs could kill or seriously injure people. And, one way for this to happen is for a person to exceed the maximum weight limit (info is written on the bottom of the chair). The next way to cause an office chair, etc. to explode is to put it close to a heat source like a fire place. Still, another way to cause harm from a pressurized chair is to keep it for say longer than 3 years or once it has obvious wear and tear which can affect the gas spring too letting nitrogen gas (an explosive) out and then you'll have an explosion. Have a good one and check your old pressurized chairs! Catherine Davis Listen & Study Services

I never stop becoming amazed at how smart some animals are! That's why I share the YouTube videos which show just how smart many of them truly are. Seriously?Oh don't tell me that! Lolssss. I can't overcook mushrooms? And, I learned something else knew, mushrooms aren't vegetables. The latter part of the above sentence is a little disturbing! All of these years I thought of mushrooms as vegetables and ate them with gusto. Come to think of it, I wondered why the university cafe used mushrooms to replace meet and only took one dollar off the cost of my veggie wrap! Darn technicalities! Now I do love mushrooms, but to charge me as if I were eating meet! Shoot shoot shoot! Not fair hahaha! |
