How often do you check your cell phone?
I'll answer this question first: I check my cell phone about six times a day - a few times each morning, noon, and early evening until about 11 p.m.
I need to check on family and friends and to see if I have important notifications! I occasionally binge watch Social Media videos once or twice a month. I also do Social Media Marketing for my business here at Listen & Study Services.
So I highly disagree that if people spend a lot of time on their phones, they are addicted to them. It depends on what you're doing on your phone for hours at a time. But, be careful and responsible. Many young couples have kids and they and their kids are indeed addicted to their phones; they even bring them to the dinner table and answer text and notifications. Such behavior shouldn't go unchecked. If your child keeps doing this, take the phone away for a day or two. Should he or she or they repeatedly violate the 'No phone or tablet at the dinner table rule,' up the ante and take the phone away for a week.
Trust me, that child will stop bringing his phone to dinner.
As far as you go, as his parent, you must practice self control and set an example for him, her, or them. If you're always on your phone (except for business or emergencies) they'll think it has to be alright for them to be also. But, forget what I've just written if you're one of those do-as-I-say-but-not-as-I-do parents, because even if you change this attitude, the damage has been going on for years by now! Heck, just give it a go and let those little buggers know you can do the 'Adult' thing and use good judgement about your cell phone... Don't wimp out on your kids... Don't forget to watch the video, below on this page, on how some schools deal with students and their cell phones.
