Fox news reports that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found traces of a deadly brain-eating amoeba called Naegleria fowleri. If you get a chance, read the Facebook comments for this post. Some comments make sense to me, most don't. One of the few comments that do make sense to me is the one about where a mother talks about her toddler drinking water out of a sippy cup and accidentally poring water up his nose.
I thought that was a valid point until another commenter came along and almost spoiled it for me. He said that one would have to take a bath or swim in waters where the amoeba populate. Yet, I read, in this Fox News article, that well water could also contain these dangerous parasites. Thus, I am back where I started at my conclusion; which is that if that mom, I mentioned earlier, puts well water into her toddler's sippy cup and the child spills it up his nose, he could inhale an amoeba.
I agree with authorities that those chances of getting a 'Brain-eating disease' from amoebas in wells is not all that likely, but who in the world wants to take that chance with their kids? Not me!!!
