l sure hope that Cyclone Debbie doesn't turn into a Category 5 one, near the Queensland coast, because I don't want people to lose their lives, to become seriously injured, or homeless!
Large storms have a way of stopping time, sorta speak! I don't know which is worse a cyclone, a hurricane, or a tornado! Or, is each of them about the same in that they all wreak havoc and destroy lives wherever they touch down; this is so even though here in America, we do not get cyclones.
While I can't say that I've ever been in a tornado, I did experience the overwhelming anger of a summer storm that felt like to me, a C4 hurricane with 75-mile-an-hour winds, in 2011. Well, that is what the rumor was. Hundreds of transformers blew out causing our lights to go out for three days (three blocks in my neighborhood and dozen others across Chicagoland; where we do not get tornadoes or hurricanes) and the electric company sent out workers to escort us upstairs to our apartments. I had a flashlight and used it but still felt unsafe climbing the stairs to the fourth floor.
Our frozen and refrigerated foods didn't spoil because we went to the store and bought ice. Yes, those were scary times, and I don't wish that experience on anyone.
I find it funny that the weather people didn't call this 75 mph storm a hurricane when the description below states one only has to have 74 mph winds:
Tropical cyclones with maximum sustained surface winds of less than 39 miles per hour (mph) are called tropical depressions. Those with maximum sustained winds of 39 mph or higher are called tropical storms. When a storm's maximum sustained winds reach 74 mph, it is called a hurricane.
