I've never had to live out of my car. But then again, I never had to do it because instead, I would go in search of a place to live with someone. This commentary is dedicated to those who've, as a last resort, lived in their cars.
I personally feel it is more dignified to live in your car then to stay with people or go to a homeless shelter! Take from me, I've done both of these things many many many, many times!
People want to keep their homes (apartments) to themselves and resent your intrusion into their personal space. Oh sure, they don't come right out and say that of course! You pick up on their mood when you wake up the next morning as they sigh upon seeing you in their living room. You can't miss the disappointed look as they watch you come out of their bathroom! And, even when you offer to help around their home, it will never be enough help since they want you gone!.
Also, if you're neat and tidy but they are not, they hate that as well! So then your not only homeless but a nuisance as well. I and my toddler stayed with a friend of mine but because I smoked (outside only) she kicked us out in less than two-weeks. We had no where to go and wound up staying with strangers. I know you think their must have been more to that story, but there wasn't other than me using a few cus words (I apologized but it wasn't good enough for her) in her Christian home. For the longest, I go beyond what I am supposed to do in other's homes. I hate making people uncomfortable. And before you ask, no, I don't think I'm perfect even though I strive to be. I hate hurting people's feelings! Some see this as weakness.
Long-story-short, I would never live in my car (except for an apocalypses) even if I had so live with another unkind friend. That friend became my enemy and I've seen her only once in 34+ years. We were cordial towards each other.
