A according to the linked L.A. Times news article, the judge who presided over this case, sentenced former Native American Tribal Leader Cherie Rhoades, 47 to the 'death penalty' for carrying out a murderous shooting and stabbing spree that killed four tribe members, including two of her own relatives.
Apparently, Rhoads became enraged the day she took an automatic weapon into a council meeting where she was supposed to repeal an eviction from the tribal community. In addition to her eviction, a few weeks before the shooting incident, Rhoades was awaiting a federal investigation that she allegedly embezzled $50,000 from the tribe.
Rhoades was stabbing someone out in the parking lot after she ran out of bullets when the police pulled up to arrest her.
Well now, she certainly sounds like she was more than a handful to deal with on a daily basis. No wonder they were going to put her off the reservation. It's too bad they didn't have any way to defend themselves and end her miserable life by taking her out of her misery.
These days it seems too many heartless individuals have no value for human life and feel it's up to them who lives or dies. All I can say is, "If only 'Minority Report was real' those innocent people this evil woman shot would still be alive.
She gets to be feed, clothed, and housed on death row for 20 years or longer; costing taxpayers millions of dollars to keep her alive.
----Beason rejected the option to modify a Placer County jury’s death sentence to life in prison, calling the killings at the Cedarville Rancheria Tribal Headquarters “intentional, premeditated and willful.”
