The tragic death of this little baby isn't the 911 operator system's fault as is mentioned in the linked Tribune news article. If anyone or anything is to blame, it would have to lay at T- Mobile's feet.
The poor babysitter was panicked and adamant about getting hold to the 911 operator to no avail, even so, I just can't help but think, why didn't she go next door and ask to use their phone??? "I'm sorry, I am not blaming the sitter, I am simply offering logical thinking to assist other baby sitters to make better rescue choices!"
Recently, there was a news story about a mom who took her unresponsive infant to a postal worker who saved the child's life! So, please do do something like this, if you must in order to save a life.

As far as the T-mobile cell phone the sitter used to dial 911, T-Mobile or the cell phone maker might be looking at a lawsuit stemming from either a defective phone or the mobile career services - that prevented this customer from seeking emergency assistance from 911.
