I commented on this MSN article to show others reading it how to read into what the author, Erica Sweeney, is really saying and why. 


First, please don't think that I am bashing this expert! I do agree with approximately 95+ percent of what she said about manipulative people pretending to be empathetic in order for them to easely take advantage of others. However, I disagree with her using the term 'Dark Empath' to describe them. I'll explain my opinion regarding this below:

You also picked up on what I noticed about this article. The author of this article wants our attention, and she got it with the click-bate title: A Dark Empath, which is a misnomer.


Erica Sweeney (the author) needs to relook up the definition for the word 'Empath' so she could change her train of thought and the title of her article. She could rename the title to something like, 'A 'Dark -But Fake- Empath'...

Sweeney wanted us; especially real Empaths like me, to picture a person with (BPD) Borderline Personality Disorder or a similar disorder who successfully fools people into thinking he or she is an Empath. That does happen to many poor souls, but it never happens to true Empaths because we see right through the fakeness of people who pretend empathy or sympathy. Or, maybe she wants us (those of us reading this article) to believe there are Empaths who are real Empaths but dark or evil in character. I believe she's relaying this to us since she said that they 'Dark Empaths' become that way through practicing how to act empathetic around those they want to fool and then manipulate. But, as I've suggested in an above paragraph, the title is wrong since they are not real Empaths. I hope you go and read Sweeney's article and understand my assertion... Dark Empaths are non-entities!

Lastly, Sweeney might want to change her mind about the whole Dark Empath belief since it may lead narcissists out there to sincerely believe they are Empaths.
