After I read this lady's story, I no longer want to visit Mexico not even Tijuana where I've always planned to go but never got around to it. Nor will I vacation at any of Mexico's more famous tourist spots with their gorgeous scenery and pristine beaches.
I really hate reading long articles, but I found Andrea Noel's story so captivating and compelling that I became enthralled in it. Her story is about the drastic ordeal she encountered in Mexico City's Condesa neighborhood a.k.a 'Williamsburg' where she was sexually assaulted.
She lived and worked there as a journalist. Noel said that many of her colleagues were killed in Mexico, but I guess she felt safe since she lived in an upper-class neighborhood with plenty of security surveillance located throughout various places in her neighborhood. The surveillance cameras are probably also why she was walking alone wearing a skirt (See next paragraph for explanation) even though Mexico has a high-rate of rapes and other violent crimes against women.
Later on, you'll find out that during Noel's ongoing police investigation, she tweeted her friends to let them know what happened to her only to watch her story take off and go viral in Mexico and the states. But with her new found audience, came people she called 'Trolls' who treated her like she was the accused instead of the victim. Those trolls called her names like slut and told her what they would do to her and that she deserved to be raped - they told her they were going to rape her among some other disgusting threats of bodily harm.
I don't know if her crime statistic statements are correct, but I believe that since she is a journalist, she has done her research and knows at least the estimated unreported violent crime rate; especially crimes against women. Noel said that that unreported crime rate is at a staggering 92.8 percent. And, she said even if they are reported, the police hardly ever find their suspects and solve crimes.
The police investigation wasn't at all helpful in helping her find the man who sexually assaulted her. They put her through hours of gruelling questions and interviews with psychiatrist and others, only to be told she is antisocial and to be asked about her sexual life and then told she is needs to be evaluated further to see if she is either has a mental or personality disorder. A former columnist had the audacity to call her a feministnazi dyke.
I'll leave you to the end of her story...
*Thanks for visiting and see you soon!
