Listen & Study Services Commentary:
A Conceal Carry bill has advanced in the House Criminal Justice Committee. If the bill passes into law, anyone in Louisiana 21-years-old who doesn’t have a felony criminal record would be allowed to conceal a gun, on their person, without a permit.
Of course there is much dispute and contingent arguments over the need for Americans to own guns period. This bill when or if it becomes law would make any arguments like this last mentioned one, null and void. It seems that Louisianians majority are pretty much helping bill advance 6-4 in the House.
As a matter of fact, Republicans are known for voicing their support for American’s ‘Second Amendment Rights’ and they have the NRA a powerful gun rights movement and close ally to back them up against their opponents who tend to be Democratic leaders and anti-gun US citizens.
Once this bill has passed in the Senate, look out Louisiana since you’ll have then set a precedence for the rest of the states in the nation who would more than likely follow your lead regarding this bill.
The things that concerns me though is that violent criminals aren’t the only ones who’ve used guns and committed murder or serious injury to innocent others. You’re so-called ‘Law Abiding’ citizens have shot and killed their husbands, wives, loved ones, lovers, and even their children (not to mention mass shootings).
Just in case you’ve forgotten, the Las Vegas shooter, Stephen Paddock, was an older adult. He shot and killed 158 people in cold blood. As I’m keying this commentary, I realize that that number is too high. I left it there to show you how heartbroken I was at the time, the huge number of murdered US citizens stuck in my memory! Huge is huge to me! It has been difficult to remember the actual number of people shot and killed was 58. :(
Am I to just forget about the before mentioned shootings?
I am not against people protecting themselves; however, there needs to be clear oversight and checks and balances in place to make sure guns don’t wind up in the wrong hands!
