This next news article is right out of an Action/Spy flick. It's espionage. According to CNN, Maria Butina, 30, a Russian gun-rights activist admitted she was a Kremlin secret agent who tried to infiltrate conservative U.S. political groups just as Donald Trump was rising in popularity among conservatives. Initially, she said she was in the US to study our politics at a university.
Butina, stroke a deal with federal prosecutors and plead “Guilty” to plotting to influence the 2016 US presidential elections; which, is a federal crime. Butina's case has shown a light on just how much Russia was involved in US government dealings when it should not have had any say whatsoever about our government's policies, elections, secret service emails, etc. This CNN writer says that Russia interfered in the elections to sow discord between political parties. This could be true, or Putin orchestrated Butina's every move in order to get his man (Donald J. Trump) into office because he thought he (Putin) and Trump could work well together running the world.
Whatever its reasoning for interloping in US government business, Russia's plan failed profoundly. And there will be dozens of individuals to take the fall for its failure. Butin, according to cnn, had help from American citizens who have political clout and could help her move easier around those with the best political pull. One such person was her American "...boyfriend, conservative political operative Paul Erickson, helped her as she tried to use his ties with the NRA to set up the back channels." (CNN)
This real-life spy story lacked the movie type intrigue that I'm used to seeing and becoming fully engaged in. If you didn't see the Russian spy movie 'Salt' starring Angelina Jolie, you should watch it. It had it all, "espionage, double agents, murder, you name it!" Russia could learn a lot from that movie. "Kidding" - no I'm not! Yes, yes I am Russia!
