I do not want to make this commentary, about John Roberts, personal; however, I don't think I can avoid doing so entirely. You'll understand what I mean by this in just a minute.
Mr. Roberts is 76-years-old and has been married to his wife for 50 years. "I think this is so sweet and commendable!" I'm very happy that Quora allowed me to thank him for sharing his story with us (his readers). I did so because I believe we all need to stop and read older people's stories about how they made it to 76+ years of age; I truly believe their stories can give one hope for the future. Despite Mr. Roberts comment about fearing for the survival of future of the world, I believe his hopes are pretty high for those 5 grandchildren (all boys he said)!
He provided a bullet pointed list of several major life challenges and happy times in his life.
Things I can relate to in his life experiences are "getting older and wondering what will become of me when I'm elderly too. Still, I can't help but ponder those tough questions about my future."
Will I take aging in stride like Mr. Roberts? Or will I waste precious time on worrying how many more years I have left to live? I think I will be more like him and stay focused on my family and keep looking forward to the rest of my journey on this big beautiful planet!
I like that he responded to a retired RN who suggested he have a plan for his later years... He told her that he does have a plan that would stop medical treatments from keeping him alive if he develops a terminal illness. I do not have a Will as of yet, but I have verbally talked to my adult daughter about my terminal illness wishes.
How about you? Are you going to try to enjoy the rest of your life? Are you shifting your 'Hope Meter to Optimistic?'
