And now the end begins (for drone freedom as we know it). This couple made drones a big bad deal in the news and in the lives of those whom they secretly spied on while they were in the privacy of their own homes. You know the US government governs the airways and will have a lot to say about this incident where a couple used a drone to hover close enough to a man's apartment bathroom. The man, alarmed, quickly gave chase and followed it and looked at the images on it.
The victim told reporters he was shocked to see that he and his girl friend were not the only ones the drone captured footage of. After turning the drone over to police, the couple was arrested and charged with voyeurism.
There are national laws against voyeurism that state capturing pictures of someone in their private situation e.g., when they're in various states of undress or under their skirt or dress is against those laws. Voyeurism laws vary from state-to-state. Criminals also use drones to scope out homes to burglarise when the homeowners are away.
I'm thinking, pretty soon, new laws will create designated areas where people would be lawfully allowed to fly their drones. And, should you fly your drone outside of those areas, you'll go to jail and be fined a hefty fine.
So, I think those of us who want a drone and want the freedom to fly it wherever we like (except near someone's open window), we'd better get on it and buy it soon!
