-I'm finding that a lot of anti-social media gurus are popping up all over the place! I reached this sudden conclusion a few minutes ago while I was looking for more articles regarding ways for us Twitter users to move on past the whole 'Twitter' debacle!" I posted a link  below to the article of my choice for this commentary, but I thought I'd look for a longer more robust article than this one-paragraph piece which only writes briefly on Twitter, Mastodon, and Discord. Instead of finding a better one, the next article I came across (you'll see what I'm referring to when you click the link below) started talking about getting off social media! I gasps at the thought! 

Why so much hate for social media?:

​My first answer to this question? I think way to many people are tired of and leave social media because they are using it incorrectly and feel powerless to change their SM experiences!

The second reason people hate SM is tied into the first reason (listed in the sentence above this one) since hackers make them flee platforms such as Facebook out of fear they'll some day be taken financially.

Many people now hate social media because they don't know how to navigate its features. Many are left feeling alone and isolated from their family and friends (The whole alone in a crowd problem). So, they leave abruptly and some even suggest others do the same! I (Catherine Davis Founder of L&SS) have had plenty of Facebook friends and family members who made a post that let me and other friends know that they were leaving FB and how we could reach them if we wanted to. 

One person, whom I've known for over 30 years, kept asking me to go to his website and read his material because he was leaving FB for good! Well, guess what? He left for about a month! Sorry to say, I really love this guy, but I hadn't noticed he was gone until I got a request to add him. I was in shock - "Dang hackers- I thought!" But, I was wrong! It was him! He unfriended me! I can truly say, "I was hurt!" Regardless, I readded him as my friend, but I dashed over to my inbox to give him a word or two! I said, "WHY DID YOU UNFRIEND ME?" To that he replied, "I'm sorry, I unfriended most of my FB friends because I left FB- but I'm trying to get all of you back now!" My temper became calm after reading his words!

I used to be the type of person who wanted to be a (SMI) Social Media Influencer ( a social media persona who has a lot (hundreds of thousands to millions) of online followers). I soon realized that that lifestyle was not for me. Also, I became sad and depressed when I realized that I didn't and still don't have the talent for it! And, now, that's fine with me!!! I was more looking at the economics of being an influencer rather than having millions of fans adore me! I wanted a certain lifestyle and I knew that one would pay for it!

Some SMIs become sad when their followers stop following them (I'm sure the fact that the money which went with those fans was also depressing, but many Influencers must have fans love them since it keeps them performing). That sounds nice to have initially, but it will start to burden you down emotionally since fans come and go depending on your next entertaining spotlight moment! But, people must refocus on their real family and friends who will always be there (unless there's a problem - in that case - maybe Social Media isn't for you - seek counseling instead - You deserve love too- So find it and give it too! Life = a two-way Street!)!

I need to add this one last thing:

Another part of Social Media hate is the idea that it is being used by foreign governments by spying on us unknowing users! I bought this concept at first. Then I looked at my memberships and couldn't figure out how China (via TikTok) or any other country could steal government secrets from me or politically influence me ( An ordinary United States citizen)? People!!! Don't seek to get involved with politics while you're enjoying platforms such as TikTok (China connection controversy)! Use Twitter for politics! Sensor your children on the Internet (Stop them if they do not respect your online rules - You don't have to shoot your kid's laptop either!)! Simple! A

Elon Musk, as you already know, bought Twitter, Inc., an American communications company based in San Francisco, California. The company operates the microblogging and social networking service Twitter. It previously operated the Vine short video app and Periscope livestreaming service.

​Are We Addicted To TikTok?
Experts Seem To Think So!

The word, 'Addiction' has such a negative connotation that I'm not sure it should be used to describe those who can't stop using Social Media since the expert, who was interviewed by Fox News, isn't saying TikTok users need to quit cold turkey as illicit drug addicts do; since it is imperative that they immediately stop using drugs. Headlee only suggested TikTok users ease up on using the social media app.

​​The author Fox News Digital interviewed is Celeste Headlee who wrote the book titled,

 'Do Nothing: How to Break Away from Overworking, Overdoing, and Underliving.'

Headlee encouraged those who may be looking to pull back on their TikTok use to remember that the effort will be about "literally breaking an addiction."

Let's say that maybe the experts are onto something here! Still, what's the big deal about being addicted to TikTok? I mean, "Can a person go through withdrawals if they stop watching For You videos?" (I'm laughing here...) but, I seriously want to know the answer to this question.

​According to this Fox News article, it's widely believed that its (TikTok's) users are finding it hard to stop using the app:

"indulgers are having a hard time kicking the habit, as has been widely reported." Wow! We're addicts! We're hooked on dopamine?

What, no poll?

That's so interesting that TikTok pushed right past Facebook in popularity! So we are more addicted to TikTok than any other Social Media, Headlee implied as she never said another Social Media Giant (I already mentioned one of them above) was highly addictive. She made such a situation sound urgent too! Also, she explained how TikTok understands what causes humans to become glued to their cell phones. So it (TikTok) uses its algorithms to send content just for the individual to keep that person tuned in for hours and hours when he or she should be doing more important things.

TikTok owner stated that Teens are the primary users of TikTok, so does that mean that older people are less addicted to the app than them? I guess that's not important to some of us, but I think he should have drawn attention to that problem because of their impressionable minds. After all, they are spending excessive unhealthy amounts of time on TikTok according to experts who have proven this to be true. 

​At the end of the day, it's not good to go one extreme or another. In other words, every Social Media user needs to cage when he or she is spending too much time online and if that time is hurting their life.
