California Restricts Government Employee
Travel To LGBT-Unfriendly States

According to this refinery29.com news article Yahoo shared with us, California has restricted more states to its banned travel states list that its government employees may not travel to.

California Attorney General says he doesn't feel it's right that tax payers would have to foot the bill for employees to go to trainings or other meetings in states that have laws that discriminate against LGBT communities.

Democratic Attorney General Xavier Becerra added Texas, Alabama, South Dakota and Kentucky to the list of places where state employee travel is restricted. Lawmakers passed legislation last year banning non-essential travel to states with laws that discriminate against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. North Carolina, Kansas, Mississippi and Tennessee are already on the list.

I hate to say this, but why does this sound to me as if Becerra is being rather bossy. After all, if I were a state employee, and I had to receive some type of mandated training in order to cooperate with my employer or even to do my job more efficiently, the idea that the state I will be visiting would have something to do with my training, is baffling to me.

Uh yeah, as a government employee, I would suffer the consequences (sort of like I'd be punished) because of, and instead of, one of those states on Becerra's travel ban list that I need to fly to - by not being allowed to go to that state unless I pay for the trip out-of-pocket. 

Maybe you could explain this attorney's stance to me where I could understand better. 

Also, this news article mentioned one state, Becerra put on his travel ban list, where child welfare businesses are allowed to turn down services and adoptions to families based on deeply held religious convictions. Hint and spoiler alert, 'Texas is the state mentioned mainly because of this aforementioned bill in which Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) signed back in July of 2016. This bill allows denial of services based on religious convictions.

On Thursday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) signed a bill that will allow child welfare service providers to decline to provide certain kinds of care based on “the provider’s sincerely held religious beliefs.” The bill, House Bill 3859, will permit discrimination against LGBTQ couples wishing to adopt children, in addition to allowing LGBTQ children to be placed under the agencies’ care in “religious education.” The bill goes into effect in September.

In the end, no one wants the government telling them where they can travel; especially, if it's for their job, or who they have to provide services to or vice versa. If a customer doesn't like how a certain company runs its business, they should simply shop somewhere else. I wouldn't dream of going to a Muslim Mosque and requesting to have my Christian marriage held there! The same goes for LGBTQ folks, they can't expect Christians to marry them when the bible specifically states that homosexuality is a sin. Christians do not go into LGBTQ communities and ask that their officials perform 'Christian Rights Ceremonies' such as water baptism and 'Prayer of Salvation' - Now, do we?
